This work by Alfred Sisley is particularly interesting because of the location it depicts - the town of Port Marly was at the heart of the artist's work. One of his most striking works, "The Flooding of Port Marly", is also in the Musée d'Orsay collection. This painting transports us into autumn, and the treatment of the bed of dead leaves and the sky reflect the genius of this landscape painter. Alfred Sisley loved peaceful atmospheres filled with light, which is palpable here. This landscape is the perfect representation of the artist's talent for seeking out and expressing nature's most subtle colours.
