ABOUT

De Wit Fine Tapestries specialises in the buying, selling, conservation and exhibition of tapestries. Since its foundation in 1889, De Wit has grown to become a global authority in the field of both antique and modern tapestries. The conservation workshop and exhibition spaces are housed within the unique setting of the historic Refuge of Tongerlo Abbey (1484). Today, Pierre Maes, representing the fifth generation, continues a tradition spanning more than 135 years with a selection of exceptional and remarkable pieces. Quality, rarity and provenance are always the top priorities when it comes to the tapestries. Both the world’s leading museums and exceptional private collectors rely on the expertise of De Wit Fine Tapestries. Its clientele includes leading museums such as the Louvre in Paris and Abu Dhabi, the Metropolitan in New York, the Broodhuis in Brussels, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the National Trust in the United Kingdom, the Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. In addition, De Wit has succeeded in attracting an international audience with prestigious exhibitions such as ‘Golden Weavings’ in collaboration with the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum in Vienna (1993), ‘Los Honores’ in collaboration with Patrimonio Nacional in Madrid (2000) and ‘Eternal Spring’ in collaboration with the Hof van Busleyden in Mechelen (2024).
