ABOUT

Founded in 1986 by Michèle Aittouarès, Galerie BA – Berthet-Aittouarès has established itself as a leading art gallery on the Left Bank in Paris. In 2000, Michèle Aittouarès was joined by her daughter Odile Aittouarès, an art historian, author of the catalogue raisonné of Émile Othon Friesz (1879-1949), and co-founder of the Photo Saint-Germain festival and the Jeudi des Beaux-Arts association. Their collaboration began with the iconic exhibition ‘Chine-Occident ou l'aventure du signe’ (China-West or the adventure of the sign), which brought together major post-war abstract artists such as Zao Wou-Ki, Mark Tobey, Jean Degottex, Henri Michaux, and contemporary artists such as the Franco-Chinese painter and calligrapher Shan Sa. As specialists in modern art, Michèle and Odile Aittouarès have been passionate advocates of the great names in 1950s Art informel, such as Jean Degottex, Hans Hartung, André Marfaing, Pierre Tal Coat, Henri Michaux, Vera Molnar, a pioneer of digital art, and the photographer Mario Giacomelli. At the same time, the gallery actively supports the contemporary scene, having represented the sculptor Etienne Viard, the photographer Antoine Schneck, the painter Yann Bagot, and the visual artist Nil Yalter, winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2024, remaining faithful to its commitment to dialogue between eras and visual languages. Located in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the BA – Berthet-Aittouarès gallery occupies two spaces: 29 rue de Seine and 2 rue des Beaux-Arts, in the premises of Pierre Loeb's historic gallery.
