COLNAGHI is delighted to present a painting by one of the most fascinating and accomplished artists of the seventeenth century, Michaelina Wautier. At a time when women artists were largely confined to still lifes and genre scenes, Wautier distinguished herself through her mastery of portraiture and ambitious history painting. Diogenes Reading, painted around 1650, is a recent rediscovery and a significant addition to the remarkably small body of works securely attributed to her.
