De Brock: Fourth solo show with Jason Martin, Folk Law
Knokke, Zeedijk 758, 19 April - 29 May
De Brock is pleased to present its fourth solo exhibition with Jason Martin. Martin channels a minimal approach to painting through an expansive yet controlled use of colour, brush and medium. Martin interrogates the fundamentals of painting, veering from epic and luscious compositions of swirling forms to pared-down and muted abstractions in precisely blended tones. Martin’s sensual, three dimensional paintings bow to Abstract Expressionism with their obvious focus on process and intensely expressive gestures.
Martin (b. 1970, Jersey, UK) lives and works in London and Comporta.

ABOUT

The gallery was founded by Patrick De Brock in 1991 and currently occupies two spaces in the Belgian coastal city of Knokke. Thanks to its geographical location, Knokke enjoys an energetic flow of both national and international visitors from France, Germany, Luxembourg and The Netherlands. The gallery's aim is to promote established contemporary art in Belgium, with a focus on abstract painting. Over the past three decades, the programme has been developing around a group of internationally renowned artists, including Alan Charlton, Günther Förg, Bernard Frize, Imi Knoebel, Jason Martin, Julian Opie, Dan Walsh, Terry Winters and Heimo Zobernig. In doing so, the gallery has slowly but surely consolidated its position as one of the key players in Belgium’s contemporary art scene. In 2017, the gallery was joined by Patrick’s son, Bertram, turning the operation into a family affair. A number of promising, emerging artists have since been added to the gallery’s roster, namely Ethan Cook, Beth Letain and Landon Metz. The gallery is looking forward to pursuing this activity in decades to come and to keep on introducing new positions and practices they find worthy of showing.
