After major renovation work, La Patinoire Royale / Galerie Valérie Bach reopened its doors in April 2015. This cultural and commercial space presents a multifaceted program of solo and group shows featuring artists of different nationalities and generations. The focus alternates between emerging and established artists while more historical retrospectives revisit the modern era. For the 2020 edition of Brafa, the gallery's selection proposes a reflection on the often blurred and porous border between art and craft, focusing on artworks which draw from artisanal techniques. The selection of works therefore revisits the famous Arts & Crafts movement (1880-1910 - a precursor of Art Nouveau), highlighting the way craftsmen's knowledge can feed directly into art. As the selection of works proposed suggests, a similar overlap between art and craft manifests itself in certain forms of contemporary art.
