After major renovation work, La Patinoire Royale / Galerie Valérie Bach reopened its doors in April 2015. This cultural and commercial space presents a multifaceted program of solo and group shows featuring artists of different nationalities and generations. The focus alternates between emerging and established artists while more historical retrospectives revisit the modern era. For the 2020 edition, the gallery proposes a reflection on the often blurred and porous border that separates art and crafts, where a practice related to a mode of expression or a handmade technique - particularly artisanal - is expressed in the artwork, whatever the discipline. The selection of works is therefore based upon this question, revisiting more than a century later the famous Arts & Crafts movement (an initiator of Art Nouveau in the years 1880-1910), with the ambition of bringing a know-how directly borrowed from craftsman back to the center of artistic concern. This posture also seems to be at work today in a certain expression of contemporary art.
