This elegant glass vase bears the iconic etched decoration „Opal mit Schwarz“, which was designed by Josef Hoffmann for the Bohemian glassworks Johann Loetz Witwe. This vase was commissioned by the Imperial Royal Museum of Art and Industry in Vienna (which is now the Museum for Applied Arts Vienna) in 1911. The interplay between organic shapes and geometric forms is typical of Viennese Jugendstil, which flourished at the beginning of the 20th century.
