Village scene
From the age of 18, Joseph van Bredael painted canvases in the spirit of Jan (“Velvet”) Brueghel the Younger for the art dealer Jacob de Witte and continued to do so until 1710.
In Paris he became the painter to the duke of Orleans and entered the Académie des Beaux-Arts.
He renewed and perpetuated the tradition of the landscape with bluish hues where daily life is made enchanting by depicting worldly scenes.
From the princely collections to the museums is but a short step ... Nowadays we can admire the works of Joseph van Bredael in Amsterdam, Antwerp, Basel, Blois, Brussels, Dresden, Detroit, Hamburg, Moscow, Paris (Louvre), Vienna, and more.
