Axel Vervoordt named Officer of Arts and Letters

We’re pleased to announce that on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, Axel Vervoordt was named Officier des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters).

This distinction is awarded by the French Ministry of Culture to persons who have made significant contributions to furthering the arts throughout the world.
In an intimate ceremony held at the castle of ‘s-Gravenwezel, Axel was surrounded by his family when he received the Officier insignia by her excellency, Ms. Hélène Farnaud-Defromont, Ambassador of France in Belgium, and accompanied by Mr. Thomas Michelon, Cultural and Scientific Advisor for the French Embassy in Belgium.
Presiding at the ceremony, the Ambassador highlighted Axel’s contributions and unique path as a collector, curator, dealer, and designer, while underscoring his attachments to the influence of French culture and knowledge, throughout his storied career.

Previously a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres (Knight), in accepting the promotion to Officer, Axel recognized the responsibility he feels to continue sharing, learning and evolving.

“It’s a tremendous honour and I’d like to thank France for this distinction,” Axel said. “It makes me feel more responsible—to be more useful to others in the service of art. Art holds an important place in our lives because art makes life more beautiful—not only aesthetically—but in a truly spiritual way.”
On behalf of the company, please join us in recognising this remarkable achievement and wishing him congratulations.
