The magnificent handmade needle lace, impressive in its scale, presented in this lecture illustrates the remarkable craftsmanship of Belgian lace makers in the second half of the 19th century. It is an example of point de gaze, one of the four techniques that carried forward the excellence of 18th-century Brussels lace. This lecture will situate this exceptional piece within the broader corpus of Brussels lace.
