Building a digital collection: risks and opportunities for the collector

Following in the footsteps of ‘La dame au Pantin,’ a major work by Félicien Rops, François Toussaint, Sari Depreeuw and Elie Auvray propose an educational discovery of the potential of NFTs (non-fungible tokens) in the creation of a digital collection. What benefits can be expected? What are the risks? Subjects under discussion will include certification issues, market dynamics and intellectual property aspects. François Toussaint is the co-founder and CEO of ARTTS, a start-up working with artists, galleries, private collections and museums to create new opportunities for the art world leveraging web3 technologies such as NFTs. For many years, François was a strategic communications and business consultant. Three years ago, he co-founded ‘3 roots studio' in Barcelona, an audio-visual studio and communications consulting company. Trained in Law, he has been advising companies across different industries.

Sari Depreeuw is an IP lawyer and partner in Crowell & Moring’s Brussels office.  She focuses on copyright and digital law, with more than 15 years of experience advising and representing a wide range of Belgian, European, and international clients on copyright, neighbouring rights, software and database rights, and on all issues relating to the access to, acquisition and use of digital assets. She is a part-time professor at the UCLouvain/Université Saint-Louis Bruxelles, where she teaches intellectual property and media law.

Elie Auvray is a software entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience in the US and Europe. Elie is currently the co-founder of logion, the blockchain infrastructure for safe digital ownership. Logion is the only public blockchain where token-related data and files are genuinely transformed into certified evidence by a decentralised network of Legal Officers. As a result, all projects built with the logion infrastructure increase their digital asset value over the long term.
