Allegory of Peace
Bronze
Venice, circa 1600
H 51 cm
The standing figure, maybe Minerva, wears an antic tunic, her left hand on her chest. The missing right hand probably held a sword or torch
It probably stood on top of a monumental andiron
The model for this bronze can be attributed to the famous sculptor Girolamo Campagna (Verona 1549-1625 Venice) in particular due to the thin leather strap that crosses the chest of the goddess, a detail that recurs in many of his works
